Cape Coral Pop Warner: Bulls prove too much for Cape Junior Sharks

The 2012 Pop Warner season in Cape Coral came to an end this Saturday, as the city's only remaining team went down in defeat.

The Cape Jr. Sharks battled the Gwen Cherry Bulls from Miami in the first round of the Division 1 regional playoffs this Saturday in Cape Coral.

The Bulls came out on fire and jumped to a 22-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bulls were able to coast the rest of the way and finished the game with a 28-0 victory.

For the Sharks, it was a bitter end to a successful season, a season that saw the Sharks go 11-2 and capture the Peace River Junior Midget Division One Conference Championship.

For all of Cape Coral, the 2012 Pop Warner season was an exciting one. With eight different conferences in two separate divisions, the Cape Youth and Cape Junior programs captured three Peace River conference championships. The following Cape Coral Pop Warner teams were crowned champions in their respective conferences:

• Division One Junior Midget Conference Champions: Cape Junior Sharks
• Division Two Junior Midget Conference Champions: Cape Youth Tornadoes
• Division Two Midget Conference Champions: Cape Youth Hurricanes

For the season, the Cape Youth program placed third overall in the Division Two conference, compiling a 24-8 record. Cape Junior finished fourth in Division One play with a 23-17 record.

The two football programs remain extremely popular with Cape Coral's youth as each year hundreds of children of all ages come out to participate. Registration for next season begin in late spring 2013.
