Cape Coral Youth Choir hits a high note to raise funds for World Youth Day

World Youth Day is an bi-annual, international youth-oriented event organized by the Catholic Church.

St. Katharine Drexel Church Youth Choir and Musicians have released a CD of Christian music in efforts to send twelve local children to World Youth Day 2013.

Frank Gubala II and III brought in all the recording equipment needed to produce the high quality CD with Christian favorites such as Big House, How Great Is Our God and Awesome God, just to name a few.

Gubala and his sons have been in the music industry for many years. Gubala Senior, a former music educator, taught the teens many techniques that they used to bring out the best in the CD.

Members of the church also came together with the children and teens to pull the project together as a creative way to fundraise. Music director, Patty Wilson worked hard on the project along side of Donna Augenstein and Jack Hill, members of St. Katharine and the local duo The Classixs. The team led the youths and kept them motivated throughout recording.

The proceeds from the CD will go towards sending local youths to World Youth Day, which will be held July 23rd – 28th in Rio de Janeiro.

Both Augenstein and Hill feel the opportunity for local children to attend World Youth Day teaches the importance of youth morality and strong Christian moral values. This week long opportunity also offers youths a strong sense of community enrichment.

This group of teens and adults that helped them put the music and video together is hoping they will receive support from the community for their cause.

The group is selling the CDs for a minimum donation of $15 each or $20 for two copies. People can order the CD by mailing their name and address to: Frank Gubala Custom Records, 2526 Miracle Parkway, Cape Coral, FL 33914.

World Youth Day is described by Augenstein as a week long international event that brings millions of Catholic Youth together from all over the world. Her commentary can be heard on the last track of the CD describing a statement she had read, “It is a global testimony of the living and renewing faith to the world though the faces and spirits of the youth."

She also explains, “The host city sets up several activities for us pilgrims to attend to in our own native languages including daily catecheses, daily mass and reconciliation, along with many cultural events, plus all of the major events of World Youth Day.”

Everyone is welcome to attend World Youth Day; however, ages 16 -35 are strongly encouraged to attend.

This year’s theme is from a reading of Matthew 28:19; "Go, and make disciples of all nations."
